More in Favor of Technology Devices! | The Future of Instructional ...

It?s no surprise to us!?ClassLink has been touting Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) and technology in the classrooms for years but we?re thrilled to see more and more joining the ranks. This here and now approach for instructional technology is being adopted by some to allow students use of their personal mobile devices, iPads, tablets, smartphones, and more.

Need more proof that BYOT is a budget-sensitive and learning solution of the present? New Manchester High School doesn?t.? This Georgia school system will be welcoming its students back to school with the option to access their own, personal technology devices. The school is aiming for a split of in-classroom time, giving students part of the class time to use their devices as per their teachers in line with that day?s lesson plan.

This technological plan has been in the works at New Manchester for quite some time as students and parents, teachers and administrators, and a state department of education representative, and more collaborated on the goals and rollout of this plan. This plan involved a committee of over 100 starting last October, who would contribute to this three year technology plan.? Final touches are still being made before it?s presented to the board of education. The first of many steps is unveiling BYOT at New Manchester.

Director of Information Technology for Douglas County School System which includes New Manchester High School, Todd Hindmon filled in the gaps, ?It really isn?t just about technology but about how we teach students to live in the 21st century digital world.? Mr. Hindmon further commented, ?Any job you take now ? in some way ? technology is going to touch, from basic data entry to computer programming to research science, technology is going to be involved in what they?re doing.?

Many have lamented about BYOT schools and what happens to students who can?t afford their own devices ? here students who do not have personal devices will have open access to the school-issued laptops, Netbooks and Promethean boards.

What?s our take? ClassLink thinks the future of instructional technology has become our present.

What do you think? How do you feel about BYOT? ?We want to hear what you have to say! Meet with us on Facebook and join in on the discussion!
